Pinterest is giving saved beauty inspiration a more practical next step. The company on Tuesday introduced Beauty Guides, an AI-powered feature designed to turn hair and nail Pins into plans people can bring to a salon, TechCrunch reported. Rather than leaving users with only a reference image, the tool is meant to explain what to request and what the chosen look may require.

The guides are powered by Pinterest Intelligence, which combines the company’s visual intelligence and generative AI technology. According to TechCrunch, the system translates visual details into terminology commonly used by hairstylists and nail artists. Examples include balayage, root melt, and almond nails—phrases that may describe a saved look more precisely than a customer could from the image alone.

Beauty Guides will be available through a “Get the Guide” button inside the Pinterest app. Tapping it will surface specific details about how to ask for the look shown in a Pin. The guidance can include the parts of the requested service, how long the process may take, a price range, and the maintenance the result could require.

That maintenance information extends beyond the initial appointment. TechCrunch reported that a guide may explain how often a style needs trimming, toning, or touching up. Cost and timing estimates are also intended to help users plan before reaching the salon, particularly for services that may take significant time or cost hundreds of dollars.

At launch, Pinterest says the feature will work with Pins involving hairstyles, hair color, nail shape, and nail finish. That scope keeps the initial release focused on beauty services where a visual reference is already a common part of the conversation. The AI layer adds vocabulary and planning information around the image rather than replacing the image itself.

The feature is a compact example of Pinterest applying generative AI to an existing user behavior. People already save inspiration and show images to beauty professionals; Beauty Guides are designed to make that handoff more actionable. Whether the estimates match a particular salon will depend on the information presented in each guide, but the announced feature gives users a structured starting point for discussing the desired result, expected appointment, and ongoing upkeep.
